LIPID ANALYSIS CORE

The Lipidomics Module in the University Of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center Department Of Ophthalmology currently houses four major analytical instruments: one gas chromatograph with flame ionization detector (GC-FID), two gas chromatographs each with mass spectrometer detectors (GC-MS), and one high performance liquid chromatograph (HPLC) with ultra-violet diode array and flow-through radiochemical detectors. These instruments are used exclusively for the analysis of lipids and fatty acids from tissues and various specimens provided by the researchers.

A primary goal of the Lipidomics Core is to provide lipid-related analytical services to the COBRE scientists in our region as well as others on and off campus.

The other primary goal of the Lipidomics Core is to obtain more powerful instrumentation to better elucidate the lipid composition and metabolic processes of research models of interest. We have recently purchased a Thermo Scientific TSQ Vantage triple quadrupole mass spectrometer. This piece of equipment is crucial to the continued success of research programs.

The existence of this Core will provide biomedical investigators in the area a significantly enhanced ability to reach the goals of their respective research programs and to extend those programs into novel directions not previously feasible due to lack of proper instrumentation. We embrace these accomplishments and look forward to the enhanced capabilities and research opportunities to come.
